Donald Trump’s personal crusade against U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the judge presiding over a class action suit against Trump and his so-called “Trump University,” merely confirms what we already knew: Trump is both a racist and a misogynist. What the current brouhaha adds to our knowledge is this: Trump, having received the votes of millions of Republicans in the primaries, is willing to squander his work to get this far in order to gain an advantage in a personal financial matter. To restate that, he is more concerned about not losing a lawsuit in a matter having nothing to do with being president than he is concerned about showing he can act in a manner befitting a candidate for our highest office. It confirms what most of us already knew, that he is a life-long charlatan. That Republican office holders such as Paul Ryan are condemning only the remarks as racist, rather than admitting that the character of their nominee is confirming evidence that he is unfit for the presidency, shows how willing party leaders are to put aside the good of the country to retake the White House. A man cannot walk back a lifetime of bad character, even with the aid of a teleprompter.
