Ode: On Time

All too quickly,
You will find,
Things are passing by.

Try to remember:
Your beginning,
Long forgotten.
As if it never happened.
Try to conceive:
Your end.
Too far off, you say.
And yet, it might as well
  have happened yesterday.

For what you are now,
  will not be you later.
And either will you be what
  you hope.
For no matter what you strive for,
  you cannot attain all
  before all is gone.

Do not attempt to capture time,
  For it is a beast,
and can not be held by chain or leash.
Or contained in any cage.

Live for now.
For you cannot live yesterday again,
Or rush tomorrow’s living.

Today’s friends
Will be tomorrow’s enemies.
And those whose love remains,
will soon be gone.

And that which only you know,
your own mind, feelings, and love.
Shall not truly be expressed.
For even as you try,
you shall find time run out.

And all that was, is, and will be
  cannot be wholly seen.
And thus is lost to all memory.
