Under Eleven Days to Go…And After A Study Break

Sixty-Five-Year-Old Man Takes Bar Exam

Last week I, and many others taking bar review courses, completed a simulated exam. This comprises two Multistate Performance Test assignments over three hours on day one, six essay questions in three hours the same day, and two three-hour sessions with 100 multiple choice questions each on a second day. Because my Wednesday was full of meetings, I did mine on Tuesday and Thursday. I had a solid score on my practice MBE (multiple choice), and decent but not great answers on my essays. I have to say I am disappointed in my performance on today’s 100-question MBE practice, where I performed just above average.

I took a break from study while Lisa and I attended the annual meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries. While there I was honored as one of four recipients of the Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award. Earlier on Tuesday Tawnya Plumb, outgoing chair of the Computing Services Special Interest Section, honored my service to the section with the presentation of a karaoke machine housed in a microphone with a gold-plated (at lease seemingly) windscreen. Unfortunately I shipped both the Gallagher Award crystal trophy and the microphone to Durham before I snapped a photo of either.

My personal theme for the day we arrived was “Flashback Friday,” as I wore the T-shirt I bought from our library school student organization, as shown here while Lisa and I stand in front of the sign announcing the Gallagher Award winners.

On both my flights to and from Washington, D.C. I watched the video lectures that review the simulated MBE test answers, and by yesterday I was back in my study routine. I’ll keep at it, and before you and I know it, exam day will arrive.
